Ancient Roman Bronze Exceptional and very rare Openwork Brooch-Fibula shaped as an Anchor with two Peacock Heads and a lovely circal decoration. The Peacoks are an early Christian symbol of the Paradise and the existation a better life after death, and the stylized anchor a symbol of salvation. Symbols like dove, peacock, fish or anchor converted into brooches was the first and a hidden way to express the affilation to this forbidden from the roman authorities religion. An extremely rare type with a deeply symbolic importance in good grade of preservation (a crack on the neck of the left peacocks head) and its original pin which is very rare because exactly the pins are the weakest part of the brooches. Size: 3,3cm. Item No. I24 Purchased by the current owner in 2011 in Austria, Wien from Collector fair. Collected Since: 1970's. Previous owners history: Old Austrian Private Collection.
