Ancient Roman Bronze Figure of the God Eros (Cupido)

[ translate ]

Ancient Roman Bronze Figurine of a wigned Eros (Cupid) holding a Rod. An unusual but very plastic body posture with a typical roman hairstyle and a very balanced body proportions. Probably this Eros is leaning on this shepard's stick (using it like a crutch) just to have a rest, the other hand is on his hip. Very interesting and rare part of his body is the pin behind (half broken) that would have been there to fix it on another statuette - maybe Venus or on a Panther-sculpture. Made very skillfully in realistic style! Right foot is broken and half of the tail as well, otherwise very well preserved with a nice natural green patina with only a few areas of brown points on it. Extremely Rare with the tail and this body position and a lovely style. Material: Bronze Date: 1st.
-3rd. Century AD. Dimensions: 6,2cm Item No. X25 Purchased by the current owner in 2014 in Austria, Wien from Collector fair. Collected Since: 1980's. Previous owners history: Old Austrian Private Collection. The Seller can prove that the lot was obtained legally , provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information.
