Ancient Roman Bronze Statuette of Venus - 9×2.5×1.5 cm

[ translate ]

The statuette depicts the goddess of love standing nude, with her weight on her left leg, and her right slightly flexed. She holds her right hand before her breasts and her left to cover her pubic area (the ‘Capitoline’ type that derives from Praxiteles' famous Aphrodite of Knidos) . She turns her elaborately coiffed head to her left. Her hair is arranged in a classical manner; at the front the locks are parted in the middle and rolled back in wings towards a low chignon with long curls hanging down on each shoulder. She stands atop a custom wooden base in the form of a column. My parents have acquired this object in 1963 in Athens, Greece, from Tsantilis Antiques & Fine Art since 1925. Provenance: Ex. European Private Collection (1938-1946) ; Ex. Tsantilis Antiques & Fine Art since 1925 (1946-1963) , Athens Greece; Ex. Private Collection of A. Ruf, Buenos Aires, Argentina; thence by descent to current owner, Dr. H. Ruf, Florida, USA. FREE EXPRESS FEDEX SHIPPING TO CONTINENTAL USA AND EUROPE! The seller can prove that the lot was obtained legally, provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to sell/export this lot.
