Attis, a Greek god adopted from the Phrygians (Phrygia was an ancient region of present-day Turkey) and who in turn was also revered by the Romans. Lover of the Goddess Cybele. The cult of Attis carries a cycle of death-resurrection the first around the beginning of autumn and the second with the beginning of spring, in mid-March. His castration was associated with the priests who venerated Cybele, who were eunuchs, that is, they were also castrated. Provenance: Acquired from French Collection, since 1980.
