Ancient Vietnamese Dong Son Leaded Bronze Axe Head

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Dong Son culture, ca. 1000 BCE to 100 CE. A cast leaded-bronze axe head with a rectangular body and four flat faces that taper to a sharpened and curved blade edge. A small perforation through the center serves as an attachment hole for adding a handle or pole to the blade. A pretty green patina coats the surface. Interestingly, it seems that bronze items in the Dong Son culture - both the creation and the ownership of - were controlled by a limited elite who used them to acquire and maintain power over their own people. Size: 2.75" L x 1.625" W (7 cm x 4.1 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
