Signed "Andrew Wyeth" in ink u.r.
Watercolor with graphite on paper, 21 5/8 x 30 in. (55.0 x 76.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Very minor mat burn, sheet laid down on cardboard support, U-shaped bit of thread adhered to l.l. edge, support hinged to back mat at upper edge of the reverse.

Provenance: Macbeth Gallery, New York, 1946; private collection, Wilmington, Delaware; by family descent to a private collection, Medomak, Maine; Thomaston Place Auction, 2018 Fall Auction Weekend; through to the current private collection.

Exhibitions: Watercolors by Andrew Wyeth, Doll & Richards, Boston, Massachusetts, November 18-December 7, 1946; Andy & Kosti, Farnsworth Museum, Rockland, Maine, May 30-November 1, 2015.

N.B. Spruce Timber was painted by Wyeth at Broad Cove Farm in Cushing, Maine. His friend Forrest Wall (on the right) is one of the two men depicted cutting trees used to build the Wyeth's home in Cushing. Forrest Wall also posed for Wyeth's painting Man from Maine. The other figure is John Sawyer, his brother-in-law.
