Andy Gotts MBE, British b.1967- Julia Roberts, 2011; unique gelatin silver print on Fujicolour Professional photo paper, signed by the artist and the sitter in black pen, sheet 42.9 x 32.8cm (unframed) (ARR) Provenance: purchased directly from the artist. Note : Andy Gotts is a New York and London based photographer famed for his dramatic black and white portraits of celebrities and icons such as Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro. Gotts is celebrated for his ability to reveal the character of the sitter through intense and perceptive studies of their facial expressions. Gotts forges personal relationships with his sitters in order to capture the truest representation of their character. Gotts utilises these relationships and relies on the sitter to introduce him to his next subject. Gotts’ works are a an investigation of the characters behind the celebrity facade, despite their commercial appeal and study of recognisable figures and icons.
