Andy Warhol, Knives
Executed in 1982.
silkscreen ink and synthetic polymer on canvas
180 x 132.1 cm (70 7/8 x 52 in.)
Condition: The canvas and stretcher are in good condition, the canvas is supported by a six-member mitred turnbuckle wooden stretcher. The work is presented in a white wooden frame. There is a light surface scuff to the centre of the work (approx. 3 cm. in length) and minor rubbing to the turnover edges, in particular the upper right vertical edge with one associated pinpoint loss, all only visible on close inspection. There are two minor indentations (approx. 0.5 - 1.5 cm in length) to the lower right extreme horizontal edge of the work, only visible on close inspection and under raking light. There are three faint marks located in the lower left corner, lower centre and centre right, and two pinpoint media marks to the middle of the work, most likely inherent to the paintings execution and only visible on close inspection. There are small spots of fluorescence under UV light, in particular to the lower left corner (approx. 3 cm in length) and upper left corner (approx. 2 cm in length), possibly media or historic accretions. Otherwise, there are no apparent condition issues with this work.
