Inscription: Inscribed lower right: "Reddite quae sunt Caesaris Caesari et qua Dei Deo. Matth 22 Verse 21"

Date: c. 1750

Description: Multi-figure scene of the Bible from the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus Christ in the centre, surrounded by the Pharisees. In his left hand he holds the coin as a tax for the emperor: "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's!

Verso: Fragmented copperplate engraving as a base for the drawing

Condition: Good condition. Along the edges of the sheet partly clearly damaged by marginal tears and creases. Long tear at upper left. Two coarse tears at the right margin. Two missing parts at lower centre. Vertical box pleat in the centre. Sheet unevenly mounted and partly creased. A stripe-like rubbing in the upper right quarter. Faint rubbing and discolouration visible on the entire sheet.
