Anonymous (19th century), Portrait of the regimental doctor Dr Wilhelm Puhlmann, c. 1870, Lithography

Technique: Lithography on Paper

Inscription: Lower right inscribed by another person: "".

Date: c. 1870

Description: Born in Potsdam in 1797, the regimental physician Friedrich Wilhelm Puhlmann founded the "Verein deutscher Freimaurer" (Association of German Freemasons) and is regarded as one of the less familiar figures of the artist Adolph Menzel. The latter painted him in his old age. The present lithograph shows Puhlmann with smoothed features in a supposedly somewhat younger age than Menzel's portrait of 1850. Menzel himself was previously assumed to be the artist for the print (see Bock A 1201).
