[ translate ]

Vintage 14kt Carved Jade Brooch, seed pearls and enameled accents. It is marked 14kt on clasp which is a c-clasp style with locking mechanism dating this to the late 1800's, early 1900's. It is signed w.L. on the undercarriage frame of the brooch. it is 1.5" by 1" and weight is appx. 8.53 grams. The jade is bezel-set and carved with leaves, a thistle and blossom design. It sits higher in the setting than the pearls and is appx. 4.5mm thick. The pearls frame the jade set lower around the outer base of the brooch and at the four compass points they have a gold and black enameled accent with a small piece of jade polished and smooth that fits between the enameled and gold accent. The marking of W.L. on the frame could be a maker or could be the owner's initials - not sure. I get some jade in my vintage travels but this is, by far, the nicest piece I've had. I wish I had the history on this piece as it has to very interesting. I know thistles are often representative of Scotland and certainly this brooch came from someone of means back at the end of the 1800's or very early 1900's. If only it could talk. The other remarkable thing is the condition of the pearls - they are very nice and in very good condition . See photos. (Lot. W.3.219.G.27X5 - LD 4/22/19.
