Antique 1880s Pint Pitcher by United Indurated Fibre Co

Antique pitcher manufactured during the mid-1880s by the United Indurated Fibre Co, Lockport, NY. Made of compressed wood fibre. Metal handle attached by copper wire bands. Embossed on bottom United Indurated Fibre Co. Patd Feb. 6 83, Oct. 30 83, Feb. 21 84, June 2 85.

The pitcher measures 5.1/2" tall, c.3.1/4" [14cm x 8.3cm] across at the bottom; signs of aging, no repairs, the bottom wire is slightly loose; very good condition. See photos.

United Indurated Fibre Company was founded in c. 1883 by Jesse Peterson, Henry G. Cordley, and Charles E. Folger. The company manufactured household products made out of their patented 'indurated fibre' made out of wood pulp. By 1893 the company was incorporated under New Jersey laws, with the factory and general office in Lockport. At the pick of the production, they had c.300 employees; went out of business in the 1910s.
