Description:The Keshan is region where Mohtashem rug come from has 400 years of rug weaving history.. It is known for producing carpets with a high knot density and striking designs. Keshan carpets are always highly desirable among collectors. However, certain groups of carpets stand out more than others. One of them is the carpets produced in the workshops of Ustad Mohtasham. In the last quarter of the 19th century, special carpet workshops were established to meet the demands of the western marketplace. Master weavers such as Hajji Mollah Hassan Mohtasham were recruited to develop carpet workshops and oversee the design and production of rugs of exquisite beauty.This is an excellent example of the works produced in Mohtasham’s workshop. It is a classic antique rug based on a medallion design. The medallion has areas that radiate from the central medallion, filled with tiny flowers and using high-contrast colors. Mohtasham carpets have a sheen that comes from using high-quality wool with a high luster, similar to silk. ( Usually, you could see the silky type of sheen in Mohtashem with pile but in this case, due to being a very early one, it has flat pile condition and as I have shown does show wear in some parts.
