Antique German 19C Iron Strong Box w Sotheby's Tag
An antique 19C. German and or Nuremberg footed Armada, money safe, chest, strong box. A heavy wrought iron construction with an ornate Renaissance style detailed relief, side handles, hinged lid with two front latches and a center keyhole. A crown with monogrammed letters at lid. No apparent maker marks. Provenance: This item originated from a distinguished auction event hosted by Sotheby's in October 1995, designated as LOT 2641 at the Neues Schloss (New Castle), Baden-Baden, Germany. It was a part of the royal collection belonging to Margrave Max von Baden (1933-2022), a prominent figure in European aristocracy and the first cousin of Prince Charles III. This auction showcased a selection of valuable items from his esteemed collection.
