Antique Khmer Style Seated Bronze Varuna & Hamsa Statue
An antique Khmer style example of a 10th century Khmer Varuna, one of the dikplaka, guardians of the cardinal and sub-cardinal directions and the zenith and nadir. His mount is Hamsa, the goose, also the vehicle of Brahma. The perfect carving of the feathers and jewels, the naturalism and grace of the torso and iconic expressiveness of the face are typical of the Pre Rup style. 
The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
