Antique shagreen cased pocket telescope
Antique shagreen cased pocket telescope and necessaire kit combination. With lenses in each end of the cylindrical case, which slides in the middle to reveal a set of scissors, tweezers, a pencil, a folding knife and a large needle. The slide cover of one lens is marked "Ribright Optician Fecit London" and engraved on the silvered barrel is "BY Ye King's Royal Patent". Thomas Ribright was a well known maker of optical instruments who is believed to have died circa 1781. PROVENANCE: The Englishman's Antiques, Addison, Texas. 4"L x 1" Dia., Circa - 18th C.
