Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-95), a female nudeOil on canvas. A blonde nude on bare ground, the left hand in a flirtatious manner covering her face, a bunch of flowers in her right hand. On the far left a large gate, guiding the eye to a nightly landscape. On the bottom right signature "Raphl:Mengs". A few minor repairs, one slightly larger cut (restored) in the background. Carved and gilt wooden frame. Size 72 x 100 cm. Expert opinion by Gallery Heinrich, Regensburg, dated March 1991.Anton Raphael Mengs, a German painter, one of the most important pioneers of neoclassical painting. Son of Ismael Mengs, court painter in Saxony. Appointed first painter to Frederick Augustus II in 1749. Later work in Rome and Madrid, where he worked as painter to the court of King Charles III.Condition: II
