Pre-Columbian, Peru, Archaic pre-dating Chavin, ca. 2000 to 1000 BCE. Skillfully carved from a single hard brownstone of warm golden hues with black and russet inclusions, an intriguing idol of a mother and child, both rendered in an abstract manner with large bulging eyes, prominent straight noses, and long limbs. In addition to the touching subject matter, the stone itself is inherently beautiful. Size: 2" H (5.1 cm)
