Aris Knikker received his education at the academy in The Hague and spent most of his life in the courtyard city. At first he was a ceramic painter at Rozenburg, but later he switched to free, unrestrained painting. His preference was to paint atmospheric water landscapes and farmyards. This painting is signed with Markenstein. The Welter brothers (Welher) often bought unsigned works and signed the works themselves before they sold them. Including works from the Knikker family, Jan junior, senior and Aris, A. van Gilst and H. Schallenberg. Willem-Frederik (Willem) Welter, born in The Hague on 24th January 1895 and died in Amsterdam on 28th July 1939. By profession, Willem was a sculptor just like his brothers. Willem married Maria Thérèse Roelink in Meppel on 30th March 1921. On 1st February 1927, William was separated from Mary. On 27th July 1927, Willem married Alida Maria Markestein in The Hague. He sold his paintings from Amsterdam. Willem was buried in the cemetery Oud Eik en Duinen in the family grave with his mother and brother Henri. William was the 11th child of the famous artists family. Follower of the Hague School.
