Description of Design and History:
This represent a well known type of shirwan, a village some fifty kilometers south of shemakha. Shirvan produced many highly decorative antique rugs that have a formality and stylistic complexity that is found in few rugs from the Caucasus.
A wide variety of dates is found on published examples, ranging from the last decade of the 18th century to the second decade of the 20th cenury.
