Assorted Late 19th/Early 20th Century Ladies' Costume, including a checked silk two piece in brown, cream and mauve, comprising a long skirt and fitted bodice with long sleeves; four black wool skirts with striped and textured design some with ribbon appliques or ruffles; a black velvet capelet labelled Mr J Fenwick Court Dressmaker Newcastle upon Tyne; a black silk drop waist dress with long sleeves, a faux panel to the front of the skirt, with collar and decorative style 'darts' and embroidery to the reverse; a black dress with short sleeves V neckline, smocked details to the shoulders, fabric is woven with small flowerheads overall (8)
Condition Report:
. Checked two piece - Conditions alterations staining and repairs under both arms and splits, also Several splits to the silk over all, the centre back seam is open. Black striped ruffled skirt - numerous alterations and repairs, some holes, areas of wear and fading. Textured black skirt - later black velvet waistband added, patched repairs, fading. Zig Zag ribbon applique skirt - the ribbon is very worn, ripped to the opening and damage to the waist. Black skirt - generally wear overall, has repairs to the side opening, fading. Fenwicks velvet capelet - had a later ruffle trim stitched to the neck, the front openings have had trims removed, slight wear and rubbing to the velvet overall, and a couple of stitched repairs to the lining. Drop waist dress - some rubbing and wear. Black woven dress - couple of tiny holes and some wear.
