Attributed to Hugh Douglas Hamilton (Irish 1740-1808) a pair of Oils on Canvas. Edmund Butler 11th Viscount Mountgarret 1745-1793 and Henrietta Butler, Viscountess Mountgarret 1750-1785. Identities inscribed on old label verso. Edmund Butler was an MP in the House of Commons for Kilkenny County 1776 to 1779. He was a member of the powerful Butler dynasty, the Butlers of Ormond who owned and resided at Kilkenny Castle from 1391 to 1967. His wife was born at Ballylinch Castle, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. She was the daughter of Somerset \hamilton Butler, 1st Earl of Carrick and Lady Juliana (nee Juliana Boyle) Countess of carrick 1727/8-1804, daughter of the Earl of Shannon. Somerset Hamilton Butler, father of Henrietta, upon his marriage to Lady Juliana in 1750 purchased 1500 acres of land across the river Nore from his fathers castle ballylinch and refashioned an existing house which he renamed Mount Juliet after his wife. Henrietta died at Mount Juliet on 16th June 1785.
