An original Double Elephant Folio plate from Audubon's Birds of America. "Audubon had failed to collect a specimen to use as a model. A friend in Eastport, Maine, knowing Audubon wanted one sent a bird packed in ice. It arrived in Boston on February 18, 1833, in excellent condition and plumage." - Low, p. 138.
Condition Report: A few small creases at edges, hints of toning, a few spots in margins, minuscule chip at top left edge; mounting tape on reverse at corners.
