A selection of letters and cards by Archbishops of Canterbury and Archbishops of York, comprising: the Lord Carey of Clifton (typed letter signed as "George Carey" mentioning excerpts of his autobiography and reading "Indeed I went to great lengths to ensure that wholly positive remarks were made of each member of the Royal Family and that no one could accuse me of breaking confidences", 14 June 2004); the Lord Runcie (typed letter with printed signature, a typed letter signed as Bishop of St Abans saying "I took the decision after much heart-searching and with some trepidation, but very clear that I will be able to contribute little without the prayers of my friends", September 1979, and typed thank-you card signed "Robert Cantuar", 24 January 1983); Donald Coggan (two typed letters, one reading "I visited the United States of America when the Vietnam War was on and again recently now that the unhappy Watergate affair is dragging on its course.
