The map shows Utah and New Mexico Territories, prior to the statehood of Utah, Nevada, new Mexico and Arizona. The areas inhabited by native American tribes are shown and named. A Mormon settlement, and a gold mine are marked on the map. San Francisco, "Vegas", Pueblo de los Angeles, Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Salt Lake City are marked. The only railroad marked on the map runs from Benicia to Marysville.
