"Temple Fair", gouache on paper, signed lower center, titled verso on Schwartz Galleries of 517 Madison Avenue, New York label, marked "copyright 1923" and "no. 17" by the artist in the lower margin, housed in a salmon colored stick frame, re-matted and glazed, OS: 17" X 15", SS: 9 3/4" x 10 3/4". Fine condition.
Lum honeymooned in Japan in 1903. Subsequently, she returned to the Orient often to study under various masters and to exhibit. A divorcee in the 1920s, the artist led a vagabond existence with studios in San Francisco, Peking, and Japan. She is best known for her woodblocks, she did paintings like these as studies for those prints. Provenance: From the Pyle estate, Seal Harbor, ME.
