[bound with:] The Whole Booke of Psalmes: Collected into English Meeter by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins, and others. G.M. for the Companie of Stationers, 1646. 12mo, red ruled margins, ELABORATE CONTEMPORARY EMBROIDERED BINDING in silver and coloured silk threads, the upper cover depicting Aaron with a censer and the lower cover depicting Moses with the Tablets of the Law, each within an oval wirework frame, decorated with flowers and strawberries, and the spine also with a lion and a leopard, edges gilt, silk ties, in a modern purple morocco box, some loose threads

William Valentine, Chaplain of the London Hospital 1818-42 and subsequently minister of St Thomas's, Stepney; gifted to "Mrs Joseph Somes", 1 April 1842 (inscription on front free endpaper), presumably Maria (1816-1911), second wife of Joseph Somes of Stepney, shipowner and MP; Ginsburg & Levy, Inc., antique dealers, 815 Madison Avenue, NY, c.1976
