8:o (about 158x96 mm., binding 163x105 mm.). 368 ll, paginated 1-56, 1-310 (+ colophon, + original final blank). Spaces with guide letters for capitals, in italics. Woodcut Aldine device on title-page and final verso.
17th century vellum binding, somewhat worn, later manuscript title in red and black on upper board, blank spine, inner doublures damaged, red edges. Leaves 309 and 310 mended in outer margins. Minor foxing. Alle marginations.Title to Polybius with old annotation. Last blank leave with small holes and old inscription.
Provenance: Sven Borgström was born in Malmö in 1927 and worked as a chemist in Stockholm, Malmö and Lund. His fine library, which was built up over many years, consists mainly of older books dated from the 16th century to the late 18th century. His book-collecting began, as it perhaps should, with an incunabula. Borgström's interests included printers, book bindings, book illustrations, and he was interested in history, travel and maps. As a result of previous coin collecting, the subject of numismatics was also of interest in his library. Sven Borgström died 95 years old.Show more
