The Pre-Bembe (so named because they share their territory with the Bembe who arrived later) live in eastern Congo. Among the tribes who are very strongly influenced culturally by the luba, it is those who live the most in the north
They are known for their ancestor effigies called Mizimu or Misi

A very similar statuette is illustrated in "The Tribal Arts of Africa" page 152 illustration 6
