"BUENOS AYREAN" SHIP'S WARDROOM BELL ON BRACKET STAND

Solid Brass Bell with cast iron clapper, on Dolphin-form vertical bracket mount, with mahogany base plate, 18" x 8" x 23". Very good condition, small dings from striking on the outer surface.The steam/sail ship was built in 1879 at Dumbarton by William Denny & Co. for the Allen Line. She did the Glasgow-Quebec run from 1880 through 1910. One of the first steel hulls, 2629 tons, 385 foot length, 42 foot beam, 24 foot draft, 500 horsepower engines, built for hauling cattle, had cabins for 20 and steerage for up to 800, with ladies salon, and midship deck. Bark-rigged, double topsail.
