Bactrian Bronze Pendant Stamps (group of 5)
**Originally Listed At $750**
Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A fascinating group of five round, bronze openwork stamps, each with a small handle, pierced with a loop for suspension, on its reverse side. Four are cast with a cross motif set inside of decorative bands. The fifth is divided into quadrants, with a branching, tree-like motif. Each of these would have been used to form a seal, dipped in wax. Seals of this style are sometimes known as "compartmented" seals, and were cast both in geometric and figural patterns. They are distinctive to this region. Size of largest (all are roughly the same size): 1.95" W (5 cm)
Provenance: private California, USA collection; purchased in 1990s from a London, UK collection from Earl Kiefer through John Rillings
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
