Bactrian Bronze Tripod Kohl Jar

Ancient Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A cast-bronze vessel used to contain cosmetic material known as kohl. The vessel has a deep lower body that is held off the ground by three slender legs, and a tapered neck protrudes from the body and terminates in a thick rim. Vessels like this typically had lids decorated with abstract creatures or applicator sticks to dip inside the vessel. Size: 2.5" in diameter x 3.375" H (6.4 cm x 8.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York
