Bactrian Stone, Glass & Gold Necklace w/ Sassanian Seal

Ancient Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE; Ancient Near East, Sassanian (Sasanian/Sasanid) Empire, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A beautiful and wearable necklace composed of several tubular, rectangular, piriform, and cylindrical beads carved from creamy-white marble, carnelian in varying shades of vermilion and citrine, banded agate with streaks of fuchsia and salmon-pink, chalky-white stone, and intricately-worked glass. The central pendant is a hand-carved Sassanian stone seal with an incised image of an abstract geometric symbol. Interspersed between the central beads are fourteen ovoid spacer beads formed from hammered sheets of 80% gold (equivalent to 18K+ gold), and the terminals are capped with a modern brass French hook and loop combo. Size (necklace): 18" L (45.7 cm); size of largest bead (marble): 1" W (2.5 cm); quality of gold: 80% (equivalent to 18K+).
