Battle of Versailles Fashion Show, Set of Four Vintage Gelatin Silver Print Photographs (Bill Cunningham, 1973) Condition: 2 16" Width x 18" Height x 1.25" Depth (Framed) This set includes an assortment of gelatin silver print photographs each presented in a black frame with a mat under acrylic. Printed in 1973. Provenance acquired by the Neiman Marcus Collection directly from Bill Cunningham. Featured subjects: Chris Royer, Karen Bjornson, and Carla Araque, (8" x 10" photo, unframed, with Bill Cunningham reproduction stamp on verso) Betsy Theodoracopulos Kaiser for Halston, (8" x 10" photo, unframed, with Bill Cunningham reproduction stamp on verso) Charles Tracy, Kay Thompson, Bill Dugan, and Liza Minnelli, (8" x 10" photo, unframed, with Bill Cunningham reproduction stamp on verso) Zizi Jeanmaire with Cage aux Folles performers for Yves Saint Laurent, (8" x 10" photo, unframed, with Bill Cunningham reproduction stamp on verso) The photographs show signs of handling such as soft creases, smudges, raking light, and minor scratches. Not examined out of frame. The frames are in great condition with minor signs of handling. The Battle of Versailles Fashion Show was a legendary fashion event and benefit that took place on November 28, 1973. Held at the Palace of Versailles, French designers Yves Saint Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Hubert de Givenchy, Marc Bohan, and Pierre Cardin went against American designers Oscar de la Renta, Roy Halston, Bill Blass, Anne Klein, and Stephen Burrows in an epic showdown to see which country had the best designers. Nearly seven hundred guests attended including notables such as Princess Grace, Liza Minnelli, Josephine Baker, Andy Warhol, and more.
