Beautiful Bactrian Marbled Alabaster Vessel

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $500**

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A sizable vessel hand-carved from creamy yellow alabaster with streaks of white veining throughout the composition. It has a slightly-rounded but stable base, a corseted body, a deep interior cavity, and a plateaued rim. The interior cavity has been carefully carved-out and tapers towards the concave bottom. Alabaster is a material prized by sculptors because of how its relative softness enables it to be readily and intricately carved. Size: 4.625" W x 4.3" H (11.7 cm x 10.9 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#141900
Condition Report: Minor nicks to rim, body, and base, with a couple of stable hairline fissures, and some pitting across exterior, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
