Beautiful COMMODE LOUIS XIV in marquetry of rosewood and violet wood, the front slightly curved. It opens with four drawers on three rows, the rounded uprights, their fluting and the brass inlaid crosspieces. The marquetry alternates dark and dark wood species in frames. The top is decorated with circles and semi-circles around a central poly-lobed motif. Gilded bronze trim such as lock escutcheons, drooping hands and ingot mould. They take the form of floral bouquets, crowned figures, dolphins, shells and friezes of pearls. Parisian work, late 17th, early 18th century. Height. 83.5 Width. 118.5 Depth. 63 cm. (replacings, restorations). Provenance: descendant of Marie-Pie Michel Claret (1805-1886), architect-decorator of Napoleon III, protégé of Baron James de Rothschild.
