An interesting investment document signed by sitting 23rd U.S. President Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) as “Benj Harrison” at lower right. Voucher No. 850A issued by the "Great Falls Water-Power and Town Site Company" of Montana paid out $90 to "His Excellency, Benjamin Harrison" on January 15, 1892 as "Dividend No. 4 / 2% on 45 Shares." Typed throughout in purple and docketed verso. Expected paper folds and some isolated ink bleed through, else near fine. 8.25" x 7." Accompanied by a handsome engraving of Harrison, beneath which appears his facsimile signature. Near fine. 3.875" x 6.875." Ex-Sanford Mock Collection.

The Great Falls Water Power and Town Site Company was incorporated in 1887 by James J. Hill, a western railroad financier, and Paris Gibson, an engineer, near the city of Grand Falls in Cascade County in western central Montana. Grand Falls was not only a railroad hub, but an energy center. Hydroelectricity was produced by harnessing the power of natural waterfalls on the Missouri River.

Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of 9th U.S. President William Henry Harrison (1773-1841). The younger presidential Harrison served one term in between 22nd and 24th U.S. President Grover S. Cleveland’s two terms.
