Benjamin Williams Leader, RA, British 1831-1923- The river at Dolgelly, Wales; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'B.W.LEADER.1897' (lower left), 41 x 61.2 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Leader was a key landscape painter of 19th-century England, with the present work exhibiting the style which defines his output. Characteristic of his subject and technique, he here captures the idyllic and undisturbed countryside which was increasingly under threat in the Victorian era.
