Beni Ourain carpets are jewels for the interior. They have unique patterns and colors because they are handmade without following any set pattern. The weavers weave into the rugs their interpretations of significant experiences and events in their lives; symbols of love, nature and happiness are often recurring elements in Berber carpets. The naturally intense colors, such as blue, red, orange, yellow and purple, are obtained from plants and berries, such as the henna plant, pomegranate, fig and tea leaves, which grow in the Atlas Mountains. The natural black color comes directly from the wool of the sheep and goats in the mountain areas. To maintain its quality and softness, the carpet is traditionally washed with soap and then dried in the sun. This process creates a pleasant and soft texture. There is one copy of each carpet available and therefore unique.
