Bernard Louis Borione, French 1865-1920- The Cardinal's solo; oil on canvas, signed 'B. Borione' (lower right), bears number '9641' on the reverse of the central stretcher bar, 46.2 x 38 cm. Provenance: With Harrods Picture Department, London.; Private Collection. Note: Borione specialised in painting interior genre scenes, and was heavily influenced by his father, Guillaume-Marie Borione, who was also a genre and figure painter. The figure of the Cardinal, fully clad in his crimson robes, appears in many of his paintings.
