Bernard Rooke (b. 1938), a pair of ceramic Totem lamps, inset with blue enamel, 112cm and 105cm high

Provenance: Lamberty Art & Design, selected items from the storages.

Condition Report:
Bernard Rooke was educated at Ipswich School of Art and Goldsmith's College, London. He established his London workshop in 1960, creating progressive, brutalist designs which loosely draw inspiration from tribal art and natural motifs. His works are held in international public and private collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and Cleveland Museum of Art, USA. The studio is now run by Rooke's sons. A Rooke floor lamp of similar 'totem' design was sold at Christie's South Kensington, Modern Design, 28 September 2006, lot 871, and another at Bonham's Los Angeles, The Modern House, 19 Oct 2015, lot 1080 Condition report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Chips and losses to edges and extremities, also some 'roughness' due to the nature of the manufacture of these lamps. The electrical fittings and wire would need to be replaced by a professional electrician prior to use in a domestic setting - these are sold as decorative objects only. The blue glazed sunk bosses appear in good order overall - please see photographs for details
