*** As part of a radical building programme at Willibaldsburg castle, the Prince Bishop of Eichstätt created a famous pleasure garden filled with flowers from around the world. In 1611, Nuremberg apothecary Basilius Besler set about immortalising it in detailed and delicate engravings. This proved to be very shrewd, as the garden was largely destroyed in a siege by Swedish troops in 1633.
