Bodhisattva Head Statue
DESCRIPTION: A Buddhist Bodhisattva Resin Head Statue. Bodhisattvas were originally depicted as the Buddha s attendants but increasingly came to be venerated in their own right. Usually dressed in elaborate attire, they were enlightened beings who had chosen to delay their entry into Nirvana to help other sentient beings end the cycle of birth and rebirth. The headdress is deeply carved with foliate and floral motifs. The almond shaped eyelids are almost closed in a gesture of meditation but the well defined lips have the suggestion of a smile reminding us of this bodhisattva approachability and compassion.
CIRCA: 21st Century.
ORIGIN: Asia.
DIMENSIONS: H: 16 1/2" W: 8" D: 8".
CONDITION: Good condition. See lot description for details on item condition. More detailed condition requests can be obtained via email (info@akibaantiques.com) or SMS (305) 332-9274.
