An den Antiquar und Verleger Wolfgang Keiper, der eine Reihe kommentierter Faksimiles von Briefen und Manuskripten prominenter Wissenschaftler herausgab und zu diesem Zweck auch Max Born angeschrieben hatte, um nach Briefen von Max Planck und nach wissenschaftshistorischen Auskünften zu fragen. Der Gelehrte antwortet zunächst auf Keipers Fragen nach seinen Beziehungen zu Planck. "... I do not quite see what kind of publication you are planning. I have a considerable number of letters from Planck, but they are, as far as I remember, all quite personal and not suitable for publication. I am sending you by the same post, an Obituary which I wrote about Planck for the Royal Society, London, in which I also have mentioned all my relations with him: I was apponted extraordinary Professor in Berlin 1914, to assist Planck in lecturing. I was his closest colleague for about four years; later I saw him very often and continuously exchanged ideas with him ...". Kritisiert dann Keipers Liste wichtiger Entdeckungen im Zusammenhang mit Max Planck: "... it seems to me that you have omitted fundamental papers and introduced instead some secondary ones. I have appended a few examples, one concerning my own work. But more important is that you have mentioned in 1924 Siegbahn Röntgen Spektroskopie, and Wyckoff, 'Structure of Crystals', but you have omitted the work of Braggs, father and son, which followed immediately after that of Laue in 1912. There seems to be many other such omissions and I recommend you very much to submit the table to some experts in experimental ans theoretical physics [28.IV.1949] ... Thank you very much for sending me a little book about Max Planck, which I am looking forward to reading. I am unable now to do any additional work and cannot send you parts of Max Planck's letters, no can I write my autobiography. If you would remind me in about six month's time, I might try [1.VI.1949] ... Thank you for your very kind words about my short biography. I agree of course to your putting in the date 1921 of the Stern-Gerlach experiment [21.X.1949] ... I am sending you under separate cover, two volumes of the Royal Society Year Book, which contain the receivers of all medals from 1912-1947 ..." [24.X.1949]. Am 8. Dezember 1949 folgte noch ein wohl versehentlich nicht unterzeichneter Begleitbrief zu einem ausgefüllten Fragebogen Keipers. Der Empfänger hat auf 3 Briefen Borns jeweils mit Bleistift seine Antwort konzipiert. - 3 Teile gelocht; 1 Brief etwas beschnitten.
