British Military 3rd Model Brown Bess Flintlock Service Musket Possible Civil War Use Confederate Conversion
c. 1790-1800, An Interesting British Military 3rd Model Brown Bess Flintlock Service Musket that may be a Civil War Confederate Conversion to Percussion. Fine.
A nice British 3rd Model Brown Bess Flintlock Service Musket that measures 55.25" in overall length, made c. 1790-1800 that may be a Confederate Use Civil War Conversion to Percussion. It has a 39.5", .75+ cal. round steel barrel with 2 large British Royal Armory Tower proofs, surface porosity and pitting with dark age patina. Early 3rd model Lock marked; "TOWER", a "CROWN" over "GR" and a small "CROWN" over the "BROAD ARROW" stamp (Government Ownership). Brass regulation furniture. The trigger guard finial is broken off. The ram rod entry pipe was removed and the middle ram rod pipe moved into the entry position. The stock is solid with normal scratches and dings from years of service. . In good working mechanical order and may have seen service in the War of 1812, Napoleonic Wars and possibly converted by the Confederacy for the Civil War (1860-1865). Old replacement steel ram rod from a model 1863 Springfield musket. A solid example with a very interesting conversion.
