John Smart, c. 1770, a uniface silver medal by J. Kirk [after J. Smith], bust right, rev. engraved Septr 22. 1798. in centre, 37mm, 22.39g (BHM 153; E 764). Lightly cleaned and with some minor marks, otherwise about extremely fine, very rare £500-£700---In her book John Smart: The Man and His Miniatures, Daphne Foskett writes “A medal bearing his portrait, modelled by Joachim Smith and cut by John Kirk, of which there are several versions, was struck in 1777, no doubt to celebrate the year he became Vice-President.
