British Medals
The Second Boer War, a Prisoner of War small silver trinket box, the hinged lid and base from two Kruger halfcrowns, the side engraver “99 ~ Boeren Oorlog ~ 02”, the base, “* Bellevue camp * Simons Town”, 32 x 22mm., a fascinating souvenir and rare of somewhat crude manufacture, in very good order
The Second Boer War was fought between 11 October 1899 to 31 May 1902. The British were forced to establish two Prisoner of War Camps very early in the war, after the Battle Elandlaagte on 21 October 1899, one of these being the Bellevue camp at Simonstown, though the first prisoners did not arrive till 28 February 1900. Most were later removed to prison ships.
