Unsigned, sitter identified on a typed label affixed to the stretcher, with a red wax seal of an unidentified coat of arms also on the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 27 x 23 in. (68.5 x 58.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, fine craquelure, probable overcleaning in the lower third of the composition.
N.B. This portrait of a woman in a black veil is thought to depict Elizabeth Cromwell (1598–1665), painted after the death of her husband, Oliver Cromwell (1599- 1658).
