by descent to present owner, a North Carolina collector

Other Notes: Lochwood Hall is located in Goode, Bedford County Virginia in the foothills of Blueridge mountains. The property was part of a 2000-acre land grant from King George II to Colonel William Calloway (1714-1777) in the 18th century. Part of the land was later owned by William Leftwich (1737-1820) who built the Classical manor house.

In the mid-19th century Benjamin Wilkes made significant changes to the property and converted into a farm plantation and mill works. Wilkes' named his home Carlotta. At the turn of the century the property was renamed Holly Hill.

Sallie Campbell Johnston Byrd purchased the property in 1934. Ms. Byrd undertook major renovation of the property and renamed it Lockwood Hall. In 1965 is was declared a Virginia Historical Landmark.
