This multi-coloured painting is set on a gold-leaf background. On the top left you can see a sasanqua branch 山茶花 (sazanka) with vibrant orange flowers. Under this branch there are three different blooming hibiscus mutabilis 芙蓉 (fuyô) , in soft pink, white and red. Two stalks are still emerging, but already abundantly covered with flower buds. Behind them are some lush bunches of blue asters 野菊 (nogiku) . At the foot on the right side of these flowers grows a small patch of blue bell flowers 桔梗 (kikyô) . And again, next to these a patch of blooming chrysanthemums 菊 (kiku) , in yellow, pink and white. Lastly, on the right behind some rocks are a few blades of susuki-grass visible. Above these stalks of grass fly four Japanese birds, with another in the distance, which has just more momentum. The byôbu is made in the Meiji period (1868-1912) , more specifically around 1900. The screen is protected by a red lacquered frame. And in a very good condition. Only some minor traces of age and wear, a noteworthy feat considering its age of approximately 120 years old. Please check the pictures as a reference. This room dividers is very light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art. Total width: 286,6 cm (2 x 46. 1 and 4 x 44. 1 cm) ; Height: 119. 2 cm. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
